In the early 20th century there was a great demand for woven furniture in developed countries, but
attempts to fulfill this need by mechanising the weaving of cane proved impossible. Hand weaving was
too costly, it took a single weaver five days to produce a finely woven chair.
Marshall Burns-Lloyd,
an American with more than 200 inventions to his credit, studied the wicker weaving process and realised
that it would be possible to replace cane with twisted paper, which could be woven by a loom.

The new material, called Lloyd Loom, was a much finer, stronger and longer lasting fabric.
Today the company produces Lloyd Loom furniture in an identical manner to that created by Burns-Lloyd in
1917, and are proud to be inheritors of his unique process.
